Backend Engineer // Fluidly

October 14, 2019

We’re a small, friendly team of 35, attempting to solve the biggest problem facing small businesses – cashflow.

We’re using engineering and machine learning to provide real-time forecasting that really helps small businesses and their accountants to be more confident in their decisions, and allow business owners to sleep a little better at night! We recently got recognised for our hard work by making into Wired’s top 10 European startups.

We’re now looking for a collaborative and humble senior backend engineer to help us build a green field microservices backend, working with some amazing engineers and data scientists to make that happen.

Where you can have impact

  • This is a green field microservice system – ideally you will have experience of building something like this before and be excited to start again from scratch and own the design / decisions.
  • We are building a real-time, event driven architecture, so you will get to use modern ETL tools and cloud infrastructure. You will love eventual consistency.
  • We have an ever increasing flow of data. We need to build data pipelines that work for 100x our current throughput and that’s only to cover the next 12 months!
  • We are growing fast, so building robust, secure and maintainable API to serve data is our top priority. You will know what that involves and have the battle scars to prove it.
  • We’re big on DevOps, everyone owns their code to production and after, you will be a fan of IaC – we use Terraform.

More on us

We’re one of Wired magazine’s top 10 London startups 2018, have been selected for the FinTech50 2018 “Hot 10” list and we’re one of 12 finalists for the Nesta Open Up challenge.

Fluidly is backed by leading UK and US technology investors and we have a diverse, top-tier team across the board, drawn from leading firms and universities.

We strive to create an inclusive workplace where people have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, race, religion or belief, disability, age or pregnancy.

We embrace difference and know that if you can be yourself at work, you’ll be happier, more motivated and creative. We want you to bring your whole self to work, to have your own perspective and know that you belong.

Some nice little extras

  • The most competitive salary we can afford (DOE)
  • Meaningful equity. We want people to have a serious stake in the business so that all of our interests are aligned. It’s your baby too.
  • 25 days holiday – and we will make you take it. Burnout is not big or clever.
  • Limitless challenge and scope for development. You are joining us at a very exciting time and have the opportunity to take this role in your preferred direction as we grow.
  • As much of our time as you need. You professional growth is important to us, and we want to help you to be awesome.
  • Sensible problems that will add real value to real people. This isn’t a HBO parody company.
  • Flexible working where possible. We like being in the office because it should be fun. All the same if you need to leave early on ${DAY} to make the school run, that’s no problem.
  • Your choice of the best kit money can buy. Even that absurdly priced escape-key-less macbook. If you want it.
