Funding Circle launched in 2010 because of two key problems: businesses were being starved of finance by the big banks, while people were getting a poor return on their money.The answer seemed simple: why not make it possible for people to earn a better return on their money by lending it to businesses looking for funding?

We are an online social lending platform where people lend small amounts to lots of different credit worthy businesses to spread their risk and businesses borrow from lots of different people to get a better interest rate. And because this cuts out the banks everyone gets a better deal.

We are financed by Index Ventures and are expanding aggressively. Index Ventures is a leading Venture Capital firm having backed a number of the most successful European start-ups including Betfair, Skype, MySQL, Lovefilm and Playfish.

Techcrunch and The Telegraph recently named Funding Circle as one of the top 100 start-ups in Europe.
